[Hardware & Printers] Troubleshooting Common Printer Problems

Before reporting a printer issue, try these quick checks — they resolve the most common problems.

1. Power: Is the printer switched on and showing a ready light (not blinking red)?
2. Connection: Is the USB/network cable firmly attached at both ends? For network printers, is it on the same network as your PC?
3. Paper and ink/toner: Check for paper jams, empty trays, or low toner warnings.
4. Queue: Open your PC's print queue — if old jobs are stuck, cancel them and try again.
5. Restart: Turn the printer off, wait 10 seconds, turn it back on.

If it still won't print, submit a ticket under "Hardware & Printers" with: the printer's location, its model (if known), the exact error or light pattern, and whether other people can print to it.
